Dorothy Helen Moore, PhD
Health Science Specialist
Dr. Moore seeks to conceptually and methodologically advance the field of wandering science and home safety for home-dwelling Veterans with dementia who wander. In collaboration with Professor Donna L. Algase and in partnership with VA Geriatrics and Extended Care and the Office or Rural Health, she originated a novel definition of wandering behavior, developed a decision-making framework that matches problematic wandering behaviors with appropriate interventions, developed a compendium of wandering-related terms and definitions and identified four domains circumscribing all wandering behavior. In collaboration with Drs. William D. Kearns, she has pioneered the application of RFID technology to continually observe and precisely measure wandering behavior, specifically as it occurs within domestic home environments and in response to management interventions.
