William Mann, OTR, PhD, is Director of the Center of Innovation on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (CINDRR) and a Senior Research Career Scientist at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, Gainesville, FL. Dr. Mann served as Director, Rehabilitation Outcomes Research Center – Research Enhancement Award Program (RORC-REAP) from 2009 to 2013. He is Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Florida (UF). Dr. Mann served as the Principal Investigator for the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) on Aging, funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, from 1991 to 2007. The work of this RERC included a focus on Telehealth and home monitoring. Previous to his appointment at UF, he was a professor at the University at Buffalo for 25 years. In 2011, Dr. Mann received the VA RR&D Senior Research Career Scientist award, 2011-2018. Dr. Mann's current work focuses on home monitoring and communications technologies (telehealth, telerehabilitation), older driver assessment and rehabilitation, and interventions for cognitive impairment. Dr. Mann has authored more than 150 articles and book chapters on aging and independence in the past 35 years, authored/edited five books, and served as founder and co-editor of the journal Technology and Disability from 1990 to 2000. He has served as the Conference Chair for the 1999, 2003, 2006 and 2008 International Conference on Aging, Disability and Independence. Dr. Mann has served on the boards of the American Society on Aging and the Florida Council on Aging. His work extends internationally to projects in Europe, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. Dr. Mann has over 40 years of experience in rehabilitation and community-based programs. His projects span research, service and education. Dr. Mann divides his time equally between the Gainesville and Tampa CINDRR offices.
